David GouldDirector of IT Strategy & Architecture, Metro Bank

When David first began his employment with Metro Bank seven years ago they were still very much a start-up with a fantastic vision. David’s first task was to drive the integration of each of the various subsystems that make up a banks architecture into a fully integrated technology stack capable of launching the bank. David completed this successfully and Metro Banks first store opened on the 29th July 2010.

Since then David has continued to support the growth of Metro Bank in various IT roles as the Bank has grown in size, complexity and maturity. Notable achievements over and above general IT project delivery include building successful Solutions and Enterprise Architecture Practices.

In 2015 David was given the task of rebuilding Metro Bank’s banking systems in a new provider’s (Rackspace) data centres and transparently migrating banking services over. Delivered on time, to budget and with no un-scheduled service outages, David continues to own Infrastructure Management for the bank and the ongoing management of this key supplier.

In 2016 Metro Bank embarked on an initiative to completely rebuild its digital technology stack and delivery capability. David was tasked with spearheading this transformation and Commercial Online Banking was the first channel to benefit. Since then this new digital delivery capability has scaled to deliver multiple other channels including a new Retail Mobile Banking app, with lots more functionality in the pipeline. The new digital technology stack is architected around modern architecture principals and is highly performant and scalable. The internal delivery capability uses the Agile software delivery framework and DevOps toolsets and principles to delivery customer and business benefit at a high cadence.

David has spent 2017 further refining the performance of these capabilities in the delivery of various key initiatives including the design and build of the banks PSD2 API gateway, GDPR, CMA and many more.
